Transgender teenagers in the US
A recent study by the Williams Institute estimates there are about 140,000 transgender teenagers in the US. This is about 0.7 percent of the population ages 13 to 17, or 1 out of every 137 teenagers. The percent of the population varies widely by state, with Hawaii and West Virginia having the highest percentage of the teenager population estimated to identify as transgender. The estimates are based on a survey conducted by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) known as the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.
